Call For Poster Abstracts – Submission Deadline December 1, 2008

The Dermatology Nurses' Association is committed to provide educational activities of excellent quality on a wide variety of dermatology nursing related topics. Nursing is a science and an art that focuses on quality of life as defined by persons and families, throughout their life especially from birth to care at the end of life. Because nursing involves many areas and disciplines the DNA has changed the application format for poster abstracts. There are now 2 categories under which you can enter your poster.

Research Posters

What is Research?

Research is an active, diligent and systematic process of inquiry in order to discover, interpret or revise facts, events, behaviors, or theories. The term " research" is also used to describe the collection of information about a particular subject. Research posters focus on past or current research either from industry or research evidence-based nursing. The term " evidence" refers not only to randomized controlled trials, but also to systematically acquired information through evidence based research. While best practice research refers to clinically relevant research often from the basic health and medical science, it also includes patient-centered clinical research. Evidence based nursing allows nurses to use their unique clinical expertise and abilities, current clinical skills and past experience to identify each patient's unique health state and diagnosis, as well as the risk and benefits to current nursing interventions.

New Format for Research Posters

Research posters will now be judged separately, the presenters and abstract will be published in the official " Journal of Dermatology Nurses' Association". The development of the abstract will include the following headings: introduction, methods, findings or results of the study, conclusion, nursing implications and references.

Informational Poster

What do we mean by Informational Poster?

Informational poster is the sharing of information, a term closely related to concepts such as meaning, knowledge, instruction, communication, representation or a collection of facts. Informational posters will describe the formation or transformation of educational material to patients. Informational posters may include clinical improvements, and innovations that describe a successful implementation of creative ideas, resulting in improved productivity, efficiency, and quality, leading to safe patient outcomes. As well informational posters may include the description of a chapter or community activity unrelated to patient outcomes. Examples could include community projects to celebrate nursing or promote nursing.

Format for Informational Posters

Informational posters will be judged in their own category. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 posters. The development of the abstract will include the following: introduction, methods, results, conclusion, nursing implications and references if used.

An example of the suggested format for both poster categories is now available with the application guidelines either by mail from the DNA or online through the DNA web page.

Remember when designing your poster it should be attractive, well organized and largely self- explanatory. Messages should be clear and concise, understandable without oral explanation. Don't overload your poster. Discussion, graphs and tables should be kept simple.

Poster submission deadline is December 1, 2008. If you have any questions on the new format of posters please contact the DNA.
